The Veredus Grand Slam Carbon Gel is a tendon boot for the front legs with gilded details. Veredus released this gold version as a tribute to the riders who won a tournament of the Grand Slam of Showjumping. The technology is that of the Carbon Gel series: carbon with Nitrexgel over the tendon and twin ventilation underneath. In sizes M and L.
About these tendon boots
Where the name comes from. The Grand Slam of Showjumping brings four jumping tournaments together: Aachen, Calgary, Geneva and 's-Hertogenbosch. A rider who wins several of them in a row receives a bonus without precedent in the sport. Veredus dedicates this version to its own riders who won such a tournament, and translates that into gilded details on the boot. That is this model's entire reason for existing: the technology is that of the Carbon Gel series, the finish is what sets it apart.
How it shields. Over the tendon and the front of the fetlock lies a zone of carbon with a shock-absorbing film of Nitrexgel behind it. Carbon is stiff and light, which lets the shell stay thin and spread a knock over a larger surface. The outer shell is built in double density and anatomically shaped, so that it follows the line of the lower leg.
The air system. This model has the twin ventilation of the Vento range. Against the leg lies micro-perforated Aerox neoprene, with a 3D mesh fabric with ventilation channels behind it. There are air inlets at the bottom and an outlet grille at the top, so that air moves both horizontally and vertically under the boot. Heat and moisture can escape as a result. What that means for tendons or recovery, Veredus does not say.
What you actually have in your hands. It closes with elastic straps with a quick-release tip. Veredus supplies this model in two versions: black with gold and brown with gold. A gold finish asks for a little more attention than a plain binding, because scuffs and scratches show up sooner on it; that is the price of an eye-catching detail. In terms of protection your horse gets nothing extra compared with the standard Carbon Gel Vento: the gilding is finish.
What it is for, and competitions. It remains a front-leg model; behind, a fetlock boot belongs, with a shorter shell and a different shape. The current international showjumping rules set no requirements for the shape of tendon boots on the front legs. Only the weight is capped: everything on one leg together may weigh no more than 500 grams, including when wet. Veredus publishes no weight per boot. In the international dressage competition arena, boots are not permitted and have to come off before you enter the space around the arena.
