The Carbon Gel Vento Save The Sheep is the version of the Veredus Carbon Gel Vento with a lining in Techno Sheepskin, a man-made fibre with a fleece texture. Carbon with a Nitrexgel film sits over the tendon and the front of the fetlock; the double air system stays as it is. For the front legs, in brown, sizes S to L. For riders who want a soft fleece lining against the leg.
About these tendon boots
The lining is what makes the difference here. Save The Sheep is the name Veredus gives its linings in Techno Sheepskin: a man-made material with the texture of a fleece, containing no sheepskin. On this tendon boot it replaces the smooth neoprene lining of the standard Carbon Gel Vento. What you feel in your hand is a soft, fluffy inner face instead of a flat one; as far as the design goes, that is the only change Veredus lists. So what is established is the material itself: a man-made fibre with a fleece texture, and no sheepskin.
The rest of the boot. The hard zone consists of carbon with a shock-absorbing Nitrexgel film behind it, and lies over the tendon and the front of the fetlock. The outer shell is anatomically shaped and built up in double density. Here too the double air system does its work: fresh air comes in at the bottom through the inlets and leaves at the top through the outlet grille, so heat and moisture can escape from under the boot. You fasten them with elastic straps with a quick-release tip.
What a fleece lining means in daily use. A lining with a fleece texture settles softly around the leg and feels thicker than neoprene. Do count on that texture holding more sand, dust and hair than a smooth lining: brush it out after use and let it dry completely before you use it again. Sand that stays between the fleece and the skin rubs. That is no fault of the material, but it is a bit of extra work compared with the standard version.
Limits and intended use. This is a model for the front legs. Behind, a fetlock boot with a shorter shell belongs, and the shapes are not interchangeable. As with any closed boot with a hard outer face, heat builds up underneath even with ventilation, so take the boots off after work. Veredus states that the model is intended for showjumping. In the international dressage arena, boots are not permitted and they must be removed before entering the space around the competition arena; in training and in the warm-up arena they are allowed.
Competition. For tendon boots on the front legs, the current international showjumping rules lay down no requirements as to shape. Only the weight limit applies: no more than 500 grams per leg in total, including when wet. Veredus does not state the weight per boot, so you cannot work that out yourself. A fleece lining is permitted under those rules, just as a real sheepskin lining is.
