The Carbon Gel Vento Color Edition is the same tendon boot for the front legs as the standard Carbon Gel Vento, but with a coloured finish. Veredus calls that the Color Edition: binding, label and logo come in another colour. With us that is Pink, in sizes S, M and L. For riders who want their leg protection to match the rest of their kit.
About these tendon boots
What is different here, and what is not. Let us be clear about that straight away: technically this is not another product. Veredus describes the Color Edition as the version with coloured binding, label and logo. The shell, the protective zone, the lining, the air system and the fastening are identical to the ordinary Carbon Gel Vento. So if you are wondering whether a choice of colour costs you anything in protection: it does not, and nothing is added either.
The basics in short. Over the tendon and the front of the fetlock lies carbon with a shock-absorbing Nitrexgel film behind it. The outer shell is anatomically shaped and built up in double density. Against the leg sits micro-perforated Aerox neoprene, backed by a 3D mesh fabric with air channels. There are air inlets at the bottom and an outlet grille at the top, so air moves both horizontally and vertically under the boot and heat and moisture can escape. You fasten them with elastic straps with a quick-release tip.
Why a colour does matter all the same. Not to the horse, but to the overall picture. If you ride in fixed yard colours, or keep your saddle pad, ear bonnet and leg protection in line, you choose a finish here that fits in with those rather than the neutral binding of the standard version. That is a matter of taste, and we will not pretend it is more than that. Do bear in mind that a light binding shows dirt sooner than a dark one: you will have to wipe it down more often to keep it looking fresh.
The same limits as the standard version. It remains a front-leg model: behind, a fetlock boot with a shorter shell and a different shape belongs. A closed boot with a hard outer face holds more heat underneath it than an open work boot, air channels or not, so take it off after work. And for dressage, what applies to every boot applies here: in the international dressage arena they are not permitted and they must be removed before you ride into the space around the competition arena. Warming up and training are allowed.
Competition. For tendon boots on the front legs, the current international showjumping rules lay down no requirements as to shape. Only the weight is limited: everything that sits on one leg together may weigh no more than 500 grams, including when wet. Veredus does not publish a weight per boot, so you cannot work that out yourself. A coloured binding changes nothing about those rules.
