The Veredus Carbon Gel Absolute is a tendon boot for the front legs, developed by Veredus for showjumping and linked to Marcus Ehning. Carbon and Nitrexgel together form a wide protective zone that runs from the flexor tendon down over the fetlock. Underneath sits the twin ventilation system of the Vento range. For showjumpers who want the inside of the leg generously covered.
About these tendon boots
What the Absolute shape means. On most tendon boots the hard zone covers the flexor tendon and stops above the fetlock. On the Carbon Gel Absolute, Veredus has extended that zone into an inverted Y: the carbon and the gel run down from the tendon and out over the fetlock. The shell therefore covers a larger part of the inside of the leg, exactly the stretch where a horse catches itself with a hind leg or with the other front leg. That is the whole difference with the standard Carbon Gel Vento, which otherwise builds on the same technology.
Carbon and Nitrexgel. Carbon is stiff and light: the shell can stay thin and still spread a knock instead of passing it on. Behind it sits a 3 mm film of Nitrexgel. Veredus states that this film dissipates more than forty per cent of an impact, and mentions that the model has been tested by Rico Test RCT. What you notice as a rider is a shell that adds little bulk around the leg.
Twin ventilation. The Absolute carries over the ventilation principle of the Vento range. Heat coming off the leg passes through a layer of micro-perforated Aerox neoprene and then enters a 3D mesh fabric with ventilation channels. There are air inlets at the bottom and an outlet grille at the top. Air therefore moves both horizontally and vertically underneath the boot. That lets heat and moisture escape. What that means for tendons or recovery, Veredus does not say.
Fastening and use. The boot closes with elastic straps with a quick-release tip, so you can put it on and take it off quickly. The shell is anatomically shaped and follows the line of the lower leg. One limitation that comes with every closed model with a hard shell: more heat stays trapped underneath than with an open work boot, which is why the ventilation on this model is anything but a side note. A second limitation is what it is meant for: this is a front-leg model. For the hind legs Veredus has its own fetlock boot in the same range, and that shape is not interchangeable.
Use at competitions. The current international showjumping rules set no requirements for the shape of tendon boots on the front legs. What does apply is that everything on one leg together may weigh no more than 500 grams, including when wet. Veredus does not state the weight per boot, so you cannot do that sum in advance. In the international dressage competition arena, incidentally, boots are not permitted at all, so here this is a model for warming up and training.
